Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, 28, was arrested Monday night for allegedly having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old, Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker said. She was the boy's adviser.
Officials at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands contacted police on Monday, acting on a tip from the boy's mother.
According to CBS Los Angeles, police said Whitehurst and the teen started talking outside of school and developed a relationship last summer. The affair continued for a year, police said. The boy is now 17.
Whitehurst gave birth to the child June 18.
The station reports that police interviewed a second possible victim of the teacher and an investigation is ongoing.
In a statement, Redlands Unified School District Assistant Superintendent Sabine Robertson-Phillips said they were "recently made aware of allegations involving a high school student and teacher."
Whitehurst was placed on leave, Robertson-Phillips said.
The teacher has been released from jail after posting a $25,000 bail, reports the station.

POLITICS - US envoy delivers Independence Day message on freedoms with Atatürk, Kennedy quotes

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone called for freedom of expression and assembly, quoting Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, and former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, during the Independence Day reception held today in Ankara.

“The United States stands by the Republic of Turkey and her democracy, and we reaffirm our support for all Turkish citizens’ freedom of expression and of peaceful public assembly,” Ricciardone said during the event attended by Turkish EU Minister Egemen Bağış and Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz.

He also praised the ongoing debates on ideas within the society, saying it showed the distance Turkey had come since his first visit in 1979. He added that the United States listened to the Turkish people “across the social and political spectrum.”

“And as I listen – literally out the window of my residence, down to the crowds in Kuğulu Park and John F. Kennedy Caddesi – I hear the echo of the words spoken by the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,” Ricciardone said in an apparent reference to protesters in Ankara who have gathered to support the Gezi Park demonstrations over the last month.

“Ataturk said: ‘Currents of thought cannot be refuted by coercion, violence or power. On the contrary, they are only strengthened. The most effective means to confront a developing trend of ideas is to pose contrary ideas; to counter thought with thought.’”

‘A nation afraid of its people’

Quoting Kennedy, Ricciardone said confronting new ideas was one of the United States’ most important qualities.

“As President Kennedy put it: ‘We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people,’” he said.

“These words of John Kennedy are so fundamental to the American spirit, and to the core values we profess with our Turkish friends,” he added.

The U.S. envoy also emphasized the importance of freedom of the press during his speech.

“The liveliness of your debate demonstrates how far Turkish democracy has come since I arrived in 1979 on my first diplomatic tour. No modern democracy can thrive without free, energetic, and independent-minded mass media, and now, the new social media,” Ricciardone said.

Bağış and Yılmaz have both expressed their best wishes on the 237th anniversary of the U.S. declaration of independence.

Jay-Z has unveiled the cover artwork for "Magna Carta Holy Grail" at the home of one of the actual remaining copies of his new album's namesake document.
The artwork made its debut at Salisbury Cathedral -- where one of the four remaining copies of the Magna Carta is on display -- in Salisbury, England, on Wednesday.
The Dean of Salisbury, the Very Revd June Osborne, said in a statement: "We are delighted that Jay-Z has chosen Salisbury Cathedral, home to the finest of the four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta, as the location for the global premiere of his artwork for 'Magna Carta Holy Grail.' We know how important Magna Carta, and all it represents, is to people across the globe. The ideals it embodies are still relevant today. Jay-Z, through his album, is creating a huge awareness of this historic document and its modern significance to a huge audience in the run up to its 800th anniversary in 2015. We hope to welcome many of his fans here this summer to see the artwork in the Chapter House alongside our Magna Carta."
The artwork, designed by Jay-Z in conjunction with his creative director Willo Perron and photographer Ari Marcopoulous, will be on display at the cathedral through the end of July.
"Magna Carta Holy Grail" will be available to Samsung Galaxy users starting Thursday, and everyone else on July 9.

Kerry Washington

Just like her "Scandal" character Olivia Pope, Kerry Washington knows how to keep things top secret.‘Scandal’ star Kerry Washington reportedly married San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on June 24.

‘Scandal’ star Kerry Washington reportedly married San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha on June 24.

The 36-year-old actress reportedly married San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ezenwa Nnamdi Asomugha on June 24 in Hailey, Idaho, E! News confirmed.
Undeniably Asomugha's greatest touchdown ever, the couple has been dating since last summer.
Now, after a secret ceremony reportedly witnessed by only their closest friends and family, Asomugha can call Washington his wife. The marriage certificate obtained by E! was signed by the actress' parents, Earl and Valerie. Minister Chisaraukwu Asomugha of Silver Spring, Md., officiated the hushed matrimony.
But the "Django Unchained" star has never been one to be public with her love affairs. In fact, her last known relationship was from 2004 to 2007 with fiancé David Moscow, who played the young Tom Hanks in "Big." Since then Washington has been single -- or so it seemed.
In a shocking twist, Hollywood's sexy bachelorette is now reportedly Mrs. Asomugha.
It seems that cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is better at commitment off the field with his marriage to actress Kerry Washington. He has previously played for the Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and is now a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

It seems that cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is better at commitment off the field with his marriage to actress Kerry Washington. He has previously played for the Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and is now a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

"We just received word that actress Kerry Washington has married NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha," a source told sports gossip site TerezOwens.com.
The news comes hours after Washington's rep told E! "We don't comment on our client's personal life," and the pro athlete's manager, Mark Holden, would neither confirm nor deny dating rumors.
While the 31-year-old NFL player seems to have a hard time committing to a football team, having played with the Raiders, Eagles and the 49ers, Asomugha has now reportedly made the ultimate commitment to Washington.
With her game face on, Washington has given no indication of a romance or any planned nuptials but instead took to Twitter Tuesday to express her excitement about her hit ABC show airing its second season in the UK.
"Ok. Logging off! See u in a few weeks!" she tweeted. "SO excited 4 all u UK #Gladiators about 2 experience Season 2! Spread the word! July 4th @More4Tweets."
Off field the newlyweds have more in common than it seems. Asomugha has also had stints in acting with previous appearances on TV shows like "The Game," "Friday Night Lights" and "Leverage."

Brad Stevens

There was a reason Danny Ainge offered no hints about his first coaching search in 10 years. There was a reason he appeared at ease with the quest to replace Doc Rivers while Celtics faithful were busy combing through NBA coaching staffs for young assistants who might have stepped into this monumental role.
Ainge already had his candidate pegged, eyeing Brad Stevens as a response to losing Rivers. The only roadblock was luring Stevens from Butler and onto the NBA stage. In this case, the Celtics job meant volumes. It was an opportunity for Stevens to expand his bright basketball mind in the ultimate forum; he’d already taken the Bulldogs to consecutive NCAA title games with a group of mid-level prospects from a mid-major conference.
It was the improbable, Richie Cunningham in a fine suit leading a bunch of athletically challenged players who were fundamentally impeccable against the giants of the NCAA, coming as close as inches — on a 45-foot shot from Gordon Hayward — to beating Duke in the NCAA final.
And when Stevens lost Hayward to the NBA draft two years early, Stevens proceeded to take Butler to the NCAA title game again. His apparent path was to a major Division 1 school, but he told schools such as UCLA he was comfortable in Indianapolis, playing in that rustic gym, coaching mostly players who never would taste the NBA.
The Celtics opportunity caused him to leave all that, and it’s a great hire by Ainge. While hiring Brett Brown from San Antonio or David Fizdale from Miami may have worked and may have taken this rebuilding franchise in a positive direction, it wouldn’t have brought the sizzle and splash of hiring Stevens, who is considered one of the bright young minds in the game.
Although Stevens is only 36, he will be coaching mostly younger guys who know exactly who he is. There will be no need for name recognition, but he will have to gain their respect, especially Rajon Rondo.
There is a perception that Rondo is going to consider the baby-faced Stevens as vulnerable prey with the point guard’s surly attitude, but Rondo is coming off an ACL injury and has now had a few weeks to digest the ending of the Big Three Era and his newly minted role as team leader.
Rondo will have to accept Stevens as his coach and it wouldn’t hurt if he would display leadership and excitement about the new phase. The fact the Celtics made a six-year commitment is evidence Stevens will have a major role in the direction of the franchise.
The other coaching candidates perhaps would have been stopgaps, but the Celtics want Stevens to be their Erik Spoelstra. If you recall, two major free agents three years ago signed with the Miami Heat to play for Spoelstra, and after some rough patches, things have worked out in South Beach.
Spoelstra never played in the NBA, worked his way from video coordinator to head coach, and now has emerged as one of the top coaches in the NBA, even outmaneuvering Gregg Popovich in the Finals this season. Another example of a neophyte coach achieving success is Indiana’s Frank Vogel, Rick Pitino’s former video coordinator.
The NBA landscape is changing. While former players have thrived as coaches, this generation of basketball leatherheads (equivalent of seamheads in baseball) is beginning to have a profound effect on the game, and the success of Spoelstra and Vogel has proven that.
You don’t need to be a former All-Star or even former player to have success coaching at the NBA level, you need to work well with players, have the right staff to aid in relating to players, and gain the respect of your roster with knowledge and patience.
Stevens looks more like a stockbroker than a coach, but there is a reason major Division 1 teams as well as NBA executives eyed him for the past few years. And Ainge has surrounded himself with an astute front office that will blend with Stevens.
This hire proves that the Celtics job still holds cachet. There was a perception that Stevens would remain at Butler for decades because of the challenge of the position and the underdog mentality of the program. There was perhaps only one job that could convince him that while the NBA world is more material and more grimy than the Horizon League, he is savvy enough to handle this new challenge.
It will take a few years. Stevens will have to become familiar with the NBA game and NBA personnel. He will have to develop practice schedules and pregame regimens; he will have to learn when to push a generation of prima donna players and when to trust them.
It will be a tedious process but one that should excite Celtics fans because Stevens is the perfect choice for the face of the franchise. With the area still reeling from the sudden departure of Rivers, this is a salve, a reason for optimism.
And it seems that Ainge knew all along a splash like this was possible.
